Our desire for security drives people toward quick fixes that promise to provide shortcuts to the good life. On the path, they gravitate to small fixes that do not lead to lasting improvement. It's like an image of the snake swallowing its own tail. Since we can't perceive the totality of things at present, we engage in mindless activities centered on the present.
